Out Of The Car, Out Of The Genre – Need for Speed: The Run [E3 2011]

Traditionally in racing games it is unheard of for there to be any game play not in a vehicle, but Need for Speed the Run proves to be different. The game offers a new to the genre aspect where you exit the car and run from police departments with from the look of the trailer really big budgets and extreme resources.

Does the fact that you can get out of your car change the genre? I would have to say no because you are still racing, just not in a car and not all racing games are automobile based. Besides from what I can tell all your doing out of the car is running away from things not doing bank jobs or picking up hookers (like in another car based game we all know).

Need for Speed: The run looks to be an interesting game with good tracking of stats along with every in game move you make (via Autolog), it offers online play, and thanks to the Frostbite 2 engine the graphics look decent as well. Check out the game’s trailer below.
