Battlefield 3 PC Requirements Revealed, Beta Announced

DICE’s latest addition to the Battlefield franchise is expected to make waves when it launches next month. As such, everyone is itching to get their hands on it, as soon as possible. First looks at the game are nice and all, but nothing beats actually playing it for yourself. Thankfully EA has announced an open beta starting next Thursday, September 29.

I like that companies are offering up access to open betas like this. Sure, it’s fun to play it early, but from a PC gamer perspective, it gives us something else. A chance to figure out if we’re going to need to upgrade in order to really enjoy the game. Sure, we can look at minimum and recommended system requirements all we want, but it’s not the same as actually testing your system. But speaking of system requirements, we do have those now. Check them out below.

Minimum Requirements

 Recommended Requirements

OS: WINDOWS VISTA (SERVICE PACK 2) 32-BIT OS: WINDOWS 7 64-BIT
PROCESSOR: 2 GHZ DUAL CORE (CORE 2 DUO 2.4 GHZ OR ATHLON X2 2.7 GHZ) PROCESSOR: QUAD-CORE CPU
MEMORY: 2 GB MEMORY: 4 GB
HARD DRIVE: 20 GB HARD DRIVE: 20 GB
GRAPHICS CARD (AMD): DIRECTX 10.1 COMPATIBLE WITH 512 MB RAM (ATI RADEON 3000, 4000, 5000 OR 6000 SERIES, WITH ATI RADEON 3870 OR HIGHER PERFORMANCE) GRAPHICS CARD: DIRECTX 11 COMPATIBLE WITH 1024 MB RAM (NVIDIA GEFORCE GTX 560 OR ATI RADEON 6950)
GRAPHICS CARD (NVIDIA): DIRECTX 10.0 COMPATIBLE WITH 512 MB RAM (NVIDIA GEFORCE 8, 9, 200, 300, 400 OR 500 SERIES WITH NVIDIA GEFORCE 8800 GT OR HIGHER PERFORMANCE)
SOUND CARD: DIRECTX COMPATIBLE SOUND CARD: DIRECTX COMPATIBLE
KEYBOARD AND MOUSE KEYBOARD AND MOUSE
DVD ROM DRIVE DVD ROM DRIVE

Looking at the difference between “minimum” and “recommended” you can see exactly why people are going to want to test this on their PC as soon as possible. After all there’s quite a bit of middle ground between a Radeon 3870 and a 6950. Now you’ll have almost a full month to figure out whether or not you need to upgrade components to enjoy the game to its fullest. And if you’re a console gamer, well you just have a month to enjoy the beta.
