If you hadn’t heard, Blizzard finally opened up the beta for Diablo III. Unfortunately the only way to currently get in is if you’re a friend or family member of a Blizzard employee. Even still, there are bound to be a good number of people participating, which always means the likelyhood of having information leaked to the public. The company decided rather than wait for that to happen, they would simply release some of that information.
If you head over to the Diablo III site, you will now be able to access the skill calculators for each class. You are able to select six active skills for your character. There are between 21-25 skills for you to choose from. You can then add a runestone to each of the active skills. There are 5 runestones for each skill, which make the possibilities quite vast. Finally, you can select three passive skills, from a pool of 12-15 depending on your class.
From the way the calculator is laid out, it would seem that you get two active skills when you start, and a new one every six levels after that, with passive skills coming every 10. Judging by the fact that some skills are made available at odd levels, I would guess that there will be an easy way to swap out skills as new ones become available. I’m sure we will find out the answer to that soon enough.
