Cryptic’s Neverwinter Is Going To Be Free?

Cryptic Studio has decided to make Neverwinter a free MMO. Dungeons and Dragons Online is already Free to Play, and the two are somewhat similar, but I can see why they will both be available separately. Seeing as Neverwinter is set in the world of the forgotten realms and has a completely different ordeal going on.

Cryptic wasn’t originally planning on building the game in this fashion, but since free-to-play is becoming somewhat of a trend, it makes sense that they would want to follow suit. It is because of this business model shift that they won’t be releasing in 2011, but at least we will get to see it in the next year.

Don’t think a free game means everything is free though. The people working on this game still have to make money to feed the mouths at home, so they’ll be selling consumables like potions, pets, XP, and superficial items. There should be a pile of updates on this in the coming months, so we’ll just wait and see what’s up next.
