Kinect Teaching Self Defense

Taking some form of self defense is always a good idea in case you’re ever in an emergency situation. However, not everyone is going to have the time or money to go out and attend classes.

If you’re the Do-It-Yourself type, then maybe the Kinect game Ubisoft is churning out on November 8th might be something worth looking to. It’s a cross between a workout, and a self-defense lesson, which will give you the know-how to deal with an attacker if you ever came across one.

While this seems like a really cool idea, there are a few key elements that are missing from this. The human contact, and fight or flight response are not going to be there. And while you may have the moves, you might not be able to react in the way you’d like to if you were actually trying to escape someone. All in all, I’d say this would be best used if you and some friends learned the moves and then practiced with each other. That way you don’t learn all the moves from the game and think you can take on someone three times your size, without having ever actually fought someone.
