Nearly 40 New Video Channels Coming To Xbox Live

It’s amazing to see how much the Xbox 360 has changed since it first came out back in 2005. Originally a device meant for gaming, it did have the ability to play DVDs and HD-DVDs (with a special add-on). Now, whenever I login to Xbox Live, more of my friends are watching Netflix than actually playing games. And from Microsoft’s recent announcement, it looks like we’re going to have even more reasons to stream content to our 360’s.

Not content to just deliver things like Netflix and Hulu Plus, Microsoft has teamed up with nearly 40 different providers to stream the best video content to your favorite gaming console. The list is full of big names like BBC, Comcast, HBO, and Syfy. Check here for the entire listing.

The biggest question here is just how much these individual services are going to cost. Or are they going to be packaged together? If Microsoft can package individual channels at a low enough price, we could be looking at a complete revolution in the way people watch TV. Namely, they can finally get rid of cable/satellite, while still having access to their favorite stations. After all, many people only want a handful of stations, while being forced to pay for dozens that they don’t need. Don’t let us down on this one, Microsoft.
