Next Ghost Recon Won’t Be Coming To PC Due To Piracy

The upcoming Ghost Recon: Future Soldier title won’t be making its way to the PC according to Ubisoft. The publisher has put their foot down on the matter and their decision is just. The reason for this decision? Piracy.

In an interview with PC Gamer Ubisoft’s Sebastien Arnoult said, “We are giving away most of the content for free because there’s no barrier to entry. To the users that are traditionally playing the game by getting it through Pirate Bay, we said, ‘Okay, go ahead you guys. This is what you’re asking for. We’ve listened to you – we’re giving you this experience. It’s easy to download, there’s no DRM that will pollute your experience.'” Instead of the Future Soldier that will be coming to consoles, PC gamers will be getting a game called Ghost Recon Online, and this is what Arnoult was describing.

When asked about the decision to not bring the game to PC specifically Arnoult said, “When we started Ghost Recon Online we were thinking about Ghost Recon: Future Solider; having something ported in the classical way without any deep development, because we know that 95% of our consumers will pirate the game. So we said okay, we have to change our mind.” Basically, Ubisoft knows that players will pirate the game if they put it on PC, so they decided to give these players what they want, so to speak. It’s the classic “one person makes a mistake, punish them all” route. I don’t know if this is a good move by Ubisoft, but they’re most certainly bringing down the hammer.
