If you’re lucky, you might be one of just a handful of people who will get to play Mass Effect 3 a week ahead of schedule. There is a catch however. That copy might have fallen to the ground from tens of thousands of feet up in the air.
EA is planning on launching copies of Mass Effect 3 next week by attaching them to weather balloons and releasing them. The balloons will be launched in New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Berlin, London, and Paris. GPS trackers will be attached to the games, and fans can track their progress on masseffect.com, to see if they might be able to score the game as it returns to Earth.
I have a strange feeling that we might be seeing some people picked up by the police for trying to shoot down weather balloons… Nonetheless, it’s definitely up there when it comes to kooky ways of promoting a game! Mass Effect 3 will be released in North America on March 6th, and in Europe on March 9th.
