The Last Guardian Is In ‘Playable’ Stage, Gaining Help With Development

Team Ico and Fumito Ueda had an instant classic on their hands as soon as Shadow of the Colossus released back in 2005. Since then, their newest creation, The Last guardian, has stolen much of their time. The issue with this, however, is that we haven’t heard much about the game, save for some news earlier this month that a large part of the game has gone through “some scrapping and rebuilding.”

Shuhei Yoshida, Sony’s worldwide gaming studios lead, had some news he wanted the community to know, however, and recently announced it. Fans of the game can rejoice, as it looks like good news is on the horizon. From Yoshida we find that progress is being made on the game, and he claims that it is “playable, but not to the point that we can talk about timing of launch.” He noted this in an interview with Wired.

This isn’t all from Yoshida, though. We also learn that some of Sony’s other first-party developers are reaching in to lend a hand to the project. Sony Santa Monica has been fingered, being noted that the company’s “central tech group in the U.S. and the U.K.” are both helping in whatever way they can. It’s good to hear that The Last Guardian is of such importance to Sony, just as it is to the community. I’m looking forward to hearing more about the game, and its release soon.
