If you’ve been sitting on the fence about whether or not you should get The Old Republic, now you get a chance to try it out for a weekend. BioWare announced that from 5:01 am GMT Thursday through 7:00 am Monday you’ll be able to play TOR for free up to level 15.
The free experience will be a bit limited, as you’ll only be able to visit your class’s origin world and capital world, the fleet, all the warzones, and the first flashpoint available. You’ll also be unable to trade with other players, or to use the Galactic Trade Network. But it’s not surprising, seeing that this is supposed to be a free trial anyway.
At this time, TOR has around 1.7 million subscribers, and most of those people have already used up their free 30 day trials and are currently being charged to continue playing, which is good news for BioWare. But, with that being said, there have been rumblings from some players about the lack of end-game content, and other bugs and issues that have been plaguing the game. This trial is to help the people who have heard some of the bad press and want to try out the game before committing their hard earned money to it. For BioWare’s sake, hopefully this will give them a jump in subscription numbers, as it seems like the subscription numbers have stabilized at the 1.7 million mark.
