Miyamoto Warns Nintendo That He Is Indeed Human

Shigeru Miyamoto is wildly considered to be an absolute genius when it comes to designing video games, but despite his track record over the years, he’s aware that he won’t be able to work forever. In an interview with the Spanish national paper El Mundo , he had this to say: “In recent years I’ve been telling people within Nintendo [that] I’ll have to retire at some point. We must be prepared. That’s why I given more responsibility to younger colleagues.”

This is a smart business practice. An expert developer or designer can do wonders for a company, but a company can’t do much if they rely on that one person. Miyamoto sees that putting all of Nintendo’s eggs into one basket is not doing the company any favors, and is looking to change that. As Miyamoto ages, don’t be too surprised if you start seeing Nintendo games without his direct involvement.

In the end, we all grow older and eventually fade with time. By getting involved with the next generation of designers, Miyamoto is ensuing that his legacy will forever touch us as long as people are still playing video games. With that being said, however, he’s not looking to retire quite yet. Expect to see him around for a little while longer, giving us new adventures for years to come!
