New Rise of the Underdark Campaign Announced For Dungeons & Dragons

Wizards of the Coast has just announced a brand new saga in the ever-unfolding Dungeons & Dragons tabletop RPG. This new entry invites players to explore the drow race and journey into a world that’s fully immersed in dangerous dark. It’s been dubbed Rise of the Underdark, and it’s got plenty in store for unsuspecting players.

The goddess of arcane magic, Mystra, has fallen to death, and the Demon Queen of Spiders, Lolth, is reaching out to seize control of what lands are left. The massive invasion of the drow is set to start and tons of help is needed to stop Lolth in her tracks. She will stop at nothing to stretch her reign of darkness across the surface world, and strong adventurers are being called out to for aid.

Scattered throughout the summer will be plenty of Underdark events, including:

• D&D Encounters – Starting May 16th, players can gather on Wednesdays at participating game stores to experience new D&D Encounters: Web of the Spider Queen season.
• D&D Lair Assault – Experienced players can gather at their local game store to take on the Spider Killer challenges starting June 1st.
• Campaign Setting and Fortune Cards – Starting August 21st,a brand new campaign setting will provide an in-depth exploration of the greatest drow city in the game.
• Novels – This coming year will play host to a number of novels from some of Dungeons & Dragons most beloved authors. These novels include:

o    War of the Spider Queen, Volume I (April 3), Richard Lee Byers, Thomas M. Reid, Richard Baker

o    War of the Spider Queen, Volume II (May 1), Lisa Smedman, Philip Athans, Paul S. Kemp

o    And the following ebooks:

o    Spinner of Lies: Sword of the Gods (June 5), Bruce Cordell

o    Prince of Ravens (July 3),  Richard Baker

o    Skein of Shadows (July 3), Marsheila Rockwell

o    Spider and Stone (December), Jaleigh Johnson

• Dungeons & Dragons Online, Menace of the Underdark Expansion – This June Lolth’s reach has spread to the Forgotten Realms of Cormyr, where heroes are struggling to stem the unrelenting drow forces. As the Spider Queen’s schemes writhe to trap Eberron, the world’s champions must join forces to push back this dark threat.

This will surely keep players busy for the next coming year. With Rise of the Underdark, players will need to use all of their strength and cunning to defeat Lolth and bring peace yet again to the surface world. Start looking for these items and more with the new campaign starting in May!
