The developer behind Payday: The Heist, Overkill Entertainment, is currently working on a game that could be a prequel to the original Left 4 Dead. The developer announced that they’ve obtained a partnership with Valve last month, though no details on what game they were working on together came to light.
We’ve now picked up that the project will be a game that will tell the story of the zombie outbreak that occurred before the events of the first Left 4 Dead title. Overkill made the announcement during E3 and described the game as a “very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead.”
The developer released an official statement that read:
“As perceptive gamers will have notices, several hints have recently been dropped into Payday: The Heist, which has led to various rumors. We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between Overkill and Valve is currently in production. We are working on a very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done.”
I haven’t had a chance to play Payday, but I am a fan of Left 4 Dead. I don’t really know what to expect with this collaboration, and I’m wondering what platforms the developer has in mind. As more information arrives, we’ll update.
