The Last of Us Slated For A 2013 Release [E3 2012]

President of Sony, Shihei Yoshida, has made a confirmation that the Naughty Dog apocalyptic title The Last of Us won’t be making a release until 2013. He noted in a comment saying, “We are not ready to talk about 2013. But some of the games we showed like God of War and The Last of Us are not coming out this year.” It’s alright, go ahead and wipe those tears wee ones.

The Last of Us is an apocalyptic title set in modern day as the world is crumbling. It takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania as characters Joel and Ellie scavenge for supplies. Fungi has been on the loose, killing people and somehow reanimating their corpses. Nature is growing out of control, and the concrete cities are being taken back by the Earth. The military has the United States under a martial law, and people are being quarantined off into safe zones to keep the infection under control. Joel and Ellie have come together in this overgrown nightmare, and together they fight to survive and stay away from both the military and the infected.

At the E3 event Sony showed us some gameplay from The Last of Us, and it’s gotten us drooling. The game plays out like an action shooter, while throwing some adventure into the mix. It’s not your typical “shoot the infected dudes” game. Naughty Dog has found a way to put their spin on the infected idea, and it’s turning out to be something promising. I see the community having difficulty waiting until next year for this title. You can see the debut gameplay from E3 below.
