“Password” And “12345” Still The Most Common Insecure Passwords For Xbox Live

With everything on the internet requiring an account these days, it can be easy to lose track of all the different usernames and passwords for each. It’s easy to just use a single password for everything, but should it be found out, you could be in for some serious trouble. The only thing worse that that is using a very easily-guessed password for one of your accounts.

In a recent security blog post, Xbox General Manager Alex Garden stated that most hacked Xbox Live accounts tend to have extremely weak passwords. The most common of these being “Password” and “12345”. He encouraged everyone to help those who are less savvy, and let them know that insecure passwords like the ones above should be avoided at all costs.

Garden also went on to outline some of the steps Microsoft has taken to help protect user accounts. This included steps like sending out unique codes that must be entered when someone tries to make purchases from a device that’s not been previously specified as trusted. They’ve also taken legal action against sites that post account names and passwords collected from Xbox live phishing attempts.

So basically the two important thing to remember are to use strong passwords, and be very wary of phishing attempts. Doing this won’t necessarily keep you 100% safe, but it’ll come pretty
close.
