It’s been a little while since we’ve seen a Star Wars FPS title. The last one would have been Star Wars: Republic Commando. This game put you in the shoes of an elite clone trooper fighting throughout the Clone Wars. Overall, it was a well-received game that warranted a sequel. Unfortunately that game, Imperial Commando was canned before the first one even hit store shelves. But now it seems that there might be hope for the game’s revival.
A recent set of job openings on the Lucasfilm page state that the company is looking for talented individuals to work on an unnamed FPS title. The postings also indicate that the game will be developed for “current and Future Generation console and PC hardware”, and will most likely use some version of the UnrealEngine.
While nothing here specifically states that we’re getting Imperial Commando, it seems to be the most likely candidate. The only other true first-person shooter games they’ve done were the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight titles, and Shadows of the Empire. While I would love to see a successor to Jedi Academy, that story seemed to be pretty well wrapped up. We’ll have to wait for an official announcement to know anything for sure.
