The Portal 2 Space Core Will Actually Make It Into Outer Space

Thanks to an anonymous tech at NASA, the space core from Portal 2 will actually see outer space. The core has been immortalized on a panel that’s been built for the International Space Station. The panel will be shot into space where astronaut techs will assemble it on the station.

The panel will be set off into space this Friday at around 10AM EST. The tech responsible for the panel still remains anonymous, and Valve’s blog comments on the core showing up. “When we mentioned an ‘anonymous tech at NASA’ we weren’t kidding: NASA in no way officially endorses secretly laser-engraving characters from Portal onto their spacecraft.”

This is pretty cool, considering that this is something that will be attached to the International Space Station. In Portal 2 (spoilers here if you haven’t played through the game, and if you haven’t you need to go get it right now) the yellow personality core spits out random space facts. At the end of the game it sucked out into the vast expanses of space, and flips out with excitement. Even after you turn off the game once you’ve beaten it you can hear “SPAAAAAAAACE!” in your head. To that little core, we wish you Godspeed.
