Windows 8 Release Date Announced

For those of you who have to have the latest version of Windows running on your system, you’ll want to save the date of October 26th, 2012. That is the day that Microsoft will be releasing their latest OS, Windows 8. The announcement was made last evening during Microsoft’s annual sales meeting.

Part of me is a little excited for Windows 8, while another part of me is a bit apprehensive. I’ve heard many different people complain about how it’s essentially a portable device OS that’s being forced to work on a larger PC, and that it only really shines with some sort of touchscreen. On a more positive note, however, I’ve heard how you can fully boot up the computer in less than 15 seconds from a cold start, since Windows 8 seems to take a lot of the features inherent in the Hibernate function and use it for day-to-day use.

You’ll be able to purchase your copy of Windows 8 in either an upgrade or full version. While upgrading from Windows 7 to 8 may be an easier method to make sure all your files and settings stay intact, I would always recommend that you do a clean install. This will minimize any potential problems that might arise from going from one version of Windows to another.
