Notch Doesn’t Want Minecraft On Windows 8

Minecraft’s creator Markus “Notch” Persson doesn’t like Windows 8. His dislike for the operating system is no secret, and if you follow the dev on Twitter you’d have seen this first-hand. Notch is known for speaking his mind via the social network, and it was there that he claimed he’d prefer not to have Minecraft run on the new operating system at all than to go along with the crowd. He hopes that this action would turn people away from Windows 8 altogether.

Notch held a Reddit Q&A last month where he answered burning questions, and it was there that he spoke out in more detail about his ill feelings for the new new operating system. “I hope we can keep a lot of open and free platforms around,” he wrote. “If Microsoft decides to lock down Windows 8, it would be very very bad for Indie games and competition in general. If we can keep open platforms around, there’s going to be a lot of very interesting games in ten years, mixed in with the huge AAA games we all love.”

Notch praised Microsoft back when Minecraft launched for Xbox Live, and though he held happiness back then the company’s new decisions they’re making with Windows 8 have all but shattered what’s left. The new operating system releases next month, and while there are already a lot of doubts floating around about it Microsoft remains vigilant. For fans of Minecraft, however, it looks like they’d better stick with what they’ve got if they want to continue building and fending off creepers.
