Nintendo Drops Wii Price To $130 In Time For The Holidays

We know that the Wii U is going to be out in time for the Holidays this year, with a release price of $299. While it will probably be a hot ticket item, Nintendo knows that many people aren’t going to be ready to shell out $300 for a console. That’s why they’ve decided to drop the price on their current hardware.

That’s right, Nintendo has announced that they will be releasing a new Wii bundle later this month. The new SKU will include a black console, with matching Wii Remote Plus, and Nunchuck. Instead of the New Super Mario Bros. Wii that we’ve seen bundled with the console, they have chosen to ship both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort in the box, on a single disc. The new price will be $130, or about $20 cheaper than the current offering.

I can see the appeal of offering those particular titles. Namely, these two titles have a strong emphasis on motion controls, which they’re continuing to push with the Wii U. However, I think that if they’re really wanting to capture holiday shoppers, Mario is the way to go. Everyone knows Mario, which makes it an easy sell. Either way, you can get the new bundle with both Wii Sports games for $130 starting October 28th.
