Steam Greenlight Adding New Categories

There’s been a few new additions to Steam here in the last few months. First we got the new Greenlight service, that allows anybody with an account to look at and rate different concepts for games to help determine if it’s in Steam’s best interest to put it onto the service. Then came the announcement that Steam would be selling not just games, but regular software as well.

It was only a matter of time before the two new additions would meet. Yesterday Valve announced that Steam Greenlight now has a Software category. Just like with the games, now you can rate non-gaming software to let Valve know if it’s worth the time and effort to make it available for sale.

The Concepts category was also added yesterday. This category is more about getting out the word of a game in the early stages of development, and is not subject to the $100 posting fee. However, any voting on those concept projects is to give the developer data, and will not lead to getting the game distributed on Steam.
