THQ “Evaluating” Linux Support

Gamers tend to be split into their respective platforms. You’ve got your two main branches: Console and PC. Console gamers are split further, due to the individual consoles that are out there. However, PC gamers stand united, only gaming on Windows, right? While that may have seemed like the case in the past, there is a shift that appears to be coming. Valve made a big push a couple years back to get more games on OSX, and now is testing the waters on Linux. But how many developers want to design their games to work on yet another platform? Well, you can add THQ to that growing list.

After the huge success of the company’s Humble Bundle offering, they received a massive amount of feedback from gamers, asking for Linux offerings. Rather than just ignoring the requests, or dismissing them, THQ’s Jason Rubin said that the company is currently “evaluating cost/benefit as we speak.”

You might think that even if THQ decided to start working Linux compatibility into their games, it would still be a long time before they could realistically do it. However, Rubin confirmed that they are using the Unity engine on one of their current titles (he didn’t specify which one). The nice thing about Unity is that it has native support for Windows, OSX and Linux. If we’re lucky, we could see a THQ game as early as next year.
