Serious Sam Double D XXL Has A Gun That Shoots Bees

Serious Sam Double D XXL is a mouthful to say, and do you know what else is a mouthful? An entire hive of bees…would be a mouthful..of pain. I don’t know where I was going with that. Either way, Mommy’s Best Games, the developers behind this Serious Sam Side Scrolling Series (a mouthful of alliteration, if you will), has released a Dev Diary outlining some of the awesome power-ups available to you in the game. Apparently, it wasn’t cool enough that you can stack up to 6 guns on top of eachother, but you also have the ability to add a slowing effect, or float gracefully to the ground like a hardcore butterfly of death while firing, or-and get this-bees.

I don’t know what it is about a gun that shoots bees that is so awesome, nobody probably knows the actual “why”s of this sort of thing. I’ve just known, since Bioshock, that shooting bees at things is the greatest idea anyone has ever had in video games. Better than the analog stick, better than high-definition, even better than chainsaw guns, shooting bees is what life is all about, and I will not rest until there is a real gun, developed in some crazy scientist’s lab, that shoots. Goddamn. Bees. What was I talking about again? Oh, yeah, Serious Sam. The aforementioned Dev Diary is viewable below:

Wait for it…Wait for the bees.

Serious Sam Double D XXL releases this February 20th and is being developed by Mommy’s Best Games with the blessing of original developer, Croteam, as part of their Serious Sam Indie Game series. The initiative of said series, one would surmise, is to let indie developers have a go at making some awesome downloadable titles using their well-known IP. I honestly think this is a great idea, as a lot of what seems to sell many games is brand recognition, isn’t that right “Keito no Fluff”?

What do you think? Do you agree that more indie devs be given the chance to use existing IP to get more recognition, or would you like to see more original IP?
