Valve Wants To Release Unedited Version Of Left For Dead 2 In Australia

When it came to video games Australia was never exactly paradise. For many years the country didn’t have anything more than an MA15+ rating, meaning that brutal games only meant for adults were either banned or heavily watered down in order to be eligible for the MA15+ rating. Luckily, last year Australia finally decided to include the equivalent to the USA’s M rating by introducing the R18+.

Now that Australia has this new rating, Valve is hoping that they’ll be able to re-release L4D2 in an unedited state. Chet Faliszek of Valve had this to say on their official forums: “We have been exploring the options here and what we can legally do. We will have more information on this when we understand the issues fully and how we are moving forward but don’t worry any cost associated with it doesn’t worry us, this is something we want to do.”

At this point it’s unknown if they can even get the new rating. After all, it’s possible that since the game was submitted and refused rating, and had its appeal denied that the game may nor longer be eligible for a re-rate. It’ll be interesting to see how Australia handles this, because if Valve can get the game re-rated and be able to push out an unedited version of the game, then you’ll start seeing everybody else doing the same thing.
