Battlefield 4 To Use New Frostbite 3 Engine

Battlefield 4 is set to be unveiled later today, though we’ve already had some information leaked out about the new game! At the top you can see a promo screenshot of the new game, showing what appears to be modern day soldiers with modern day weaponry. The screenshot came from the Battlefield blog itself, after EA accidentally left these images unsecured.

You have to admit, assuming that these images are not pre-rendered they look marvelous. That’s because according to reports from Stockholm BF4 isn’t using an updated Frostbite 2 engine, but rather a brand new Frostbite 3 engine. Besides making everything look grimier and bloomier, the new engine has some other awesome new features.

For instance, the Frostbite 3 engine will contain a much improved destruction feature, where buildings can be completely destroyed in a presumably non-scripted event. The new engine will contain a better lighting system, a new weather system, different animations, among other things. At this time there’s not much else known about what the engine will be capable of, though I’m sure we’ll find out more when the game is officially unveiled later today!
