Times are looking tough for EA. The company has been going through some layoffs during the past few months, but it looks like those layoffs pale in comparison to the one the company enacted yesterday. According to several different sources, as much at 10% of the workforce was laid off.
Here’s the official statement from EA:
In recent weeks, EA has aligned all elements of its organizational structure behind priorities in new technologies and mobile. This has led to some difficult decisions to reduce the workforce in some locations. We are extremely grateful for the contributions made by each of our employees – those that are leaving EA will be missed by their colleagues and friends.
These are hard but essential changes as we focus on delivering great games and showing players around the world why to spend their time with us.
It’s also been reported that the EA Partners program is being shut down as well. The program was originally created to let outside developers publish games through EA, and helped let some games like Rock Band and Crysis see the light of day. However, despite the apparent demise of the label, it does look like games scheduled for release through the EA Partners program will still be happening.
