GTA V To Require Mandatory Installation For Console Versions

I hope you have some extra space sitting empty on your PS3 or Xbox 360 hard drive! According to this Q&A Rockstar has released GTA V will require you to install the game onto your hard drive before you can play it. The installation itself isn’t going to be small either, as it’s going to clock in a good 8 GB’s!

Part of the reason why they’re making the installation of the game mandatory is because the Xbox 360 version actually comes with two discs. According to Rockstar, “For Xbox 360, Grand Theft Auto V will ship on two discs; Disc 1 will be used for a one-time mandatory install and Disc 2 will be used to play the game.” The PS3 version, being that PS3 games use the much-larger Blu-Ray discs, will be on one disc but will require an installation as well.

If you have an Xbox 360 but its hard drive is full, you’ll be glad to know that you can install the game onto a 16 GB or larger flash drive. The requirements for the flash drive are that it must be USB 2.0 with a minimum 15 mb/s read speed. I don’t think that’ll be too much of a problem. Unfortunately, it doesn’t appear that the PS3 version will support USB drive installations, but since it’s a lot easier to replace the hard drive on a PS3 that’s not quite as big of a deal, though it might be quite a bit cheaper to just make sure you have enough room on your PS3 in the first place.
