Namco Announced SoulCalibur 2 HD Online Remake

One of the best fighting games to come out for the PS2/Xbox/Gamecube is SoulCalibur 2. That game had tons of characters and a multitude of stages, and on top of that it looked absolutely gorgeous. What’s more, the game had a different special character for each console: Gamecube had Legend of Zelda’s Link, Xbox has Todd Mcfarlane’s Spawn, and PS2 had Tekken’s Heihachi.

It’s been 10 years since that game came out, and Namco has decided to honor its legacy by re-releasing it for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Dubbed SoulCalibur 2 HD Online, this version is as you can tell and HD update to the original SC2. Ten years later, it still looks as gorgeous as it did back in 2003.

Unlike some remakes, this remake will feature all of the game modes that were in the original. You’ll have your standard Arcade, Survival, VS Battle, Time Attack, Team Battle, and Practice, and you’ll also have the Weapon Master mode, which I spent hours on conquering. As you can tell from the name, there will also be an online mode available as well, so you can take the fight online! However, at this time it appears that only one of the three special console-exclusive characters will appear in this remake: Heihachi. That’s a bummer, because for me there was nothing more fun than using Link’s throw to chuck people off the stage… SoulCalibur 2 HD Online will be released sometime this fall.
