As Super Smash Bros. continues to take Japan by storm, Nintendo is determined to keep up the hype by announcing a challenge to fans in the United States. Today, the day after Super Smash Bros. releases in the United States, 15 Gamestop stores are holding a series of tournaments for players to compete for more than bragging rights. The tournament winners at each location will be flown to Nintendo World in New York and given a chance to play in the Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS National Open Tournament on October 11.
The tournament series is set to begin at 11:00am local time. Games and handhelds will be provided, but players are not required to use them. Only the first 64 participants that arrive to play at the Gamestop locations will be allowed to compete, and no registration is required beforehand. If worthy participants felt the need to practice, 100 Gamestop stores around the nation (including the 15 participating in the tournament) have been offering a demo version of the game to visitors since September 27.
The final tournament will be broadcast at 6:00pm ET on Nintendo’s Twitch channel as well as on YouTube. Nintendo plans on announcing additional details in the near future about how fans can attend the final tournament. The winner of the final tournament will get the glory of being the best of the Super Smash Bros. players, a trophy, and a champion’s robe.
