So it seems that I’m not the only one who’s noticed that the Xbox 360 Live avatars are looking a bit on the scruffy side. Someone finally decided it’s time for a makeover!
Anyone care to ask why? Well, don’t worry, I have the answer! It’s because of Kinect for the 360. The developers behind the avatars, Rare, says that the motion sensing camera for Kinect has been causing issues for players interacting with games where their actions are represented by their on-screen avatar.
It’s not an issue with the technicality of the camera, says Rare, it’s more of an issue with the perception of the player. It’s because of the fact that the avatars on screen look more pudgy than our elongated selves. This causes problems with players’ hand-eye coordination with certain games.
I don’t know if this is Rare’s way of saying that we’re not fat, just big boned, or if it is just a kind gesture on their part to make the Kinect games more aesthetic to the eye. Either way, get ready for your avatar to be redesigned in a more, all new, realistic way!
