Diablo III – The Arena Battles

Featured at Blizzcon this year was a multiplayer mode in Diablo III called “Arena Battles”. We got a quick highlight of the mode’s features, and just exactly how it plays out. After jotting down numerous notes, we have a little summary here just for you.

The concept is simple, three players on each team will enter a relatively simple, small arena and battle it out until only one team is left standing. In most other games this mode would seem like something that wouldn’t offer much flair, but with the deep character customization available in Diablo III, this makes for an epic multiplayer experience.

The demo offered very little to get started with. You could choose from the Wizard, Witch Doctor, and the Barbarian.

Action in the gameplay was fast and extremely frantic. While battling it out, you quickly learn that class choice is extremely key in this multiplayer mode.

Dying puts you in a ghost form, in which you can still roam around the arena, shouting instructions to your team members.

Health globes spawn which heal injured players, turrets line the arena attacking others, and the barriers in the arena all make the class selection and team construction all part of a huge strategy that can be put to the test.

After walking away from the demo, you felt as if you were literally in an arena brawl.

The character combinations are endless. Wizards you may face one session will be nothing like those you could face in another session. With players bringing in their own customized characters, the gameplay will get that much more exciting. I can’t wait to dive deeper into this Arena Battle multiplayer mode. This is all the more reason to stay on your toes for Diablo III.

Oh, Blizzard, we humble at your feet.
