Where WoW’s Dungeons Are Headed

Just in case you didn’t know, raiding is sort of a big deal in World of Warcraft. If you happen to be one of the millions of players who has it the WoW level cap, then you know that after you’ve filled the last EXP bar, your next course of action to move up in the ranks is to tackle one of WoW’s many dungeons and raids. Each new set of dungeons in the game offers new challenges as well as a new, stronger tier of loot.

At this year’s Blizzcon, a panel was held that discussed the future of the raids and dungeons in World of Warcraft. It has been known that the classic dungeons Shadowfang Keep and Deadmines would be recreated for max level characters, details of changes made to other dungeons was revealed. If you favor a dungeon in WoW, you better get all the time you can in there now, as the changes will be wide and drastic.

A large chunk of the alterations being done to the dungeons are hitting the overly long ones. Dungeons like Uldaman and Mauradon are being split into wings like the new dungeon set, while Wailing Caverns and Sunken Temple are having some of the larger sections removed entirely. Only a few of these changes will be available with the Cataclysm launch, with the rest being set in future patch releases.

Another change which is already being rolled out in the beta is the change in dungeon quests. These quests, regardless of whether they are part of a quest chain or not, will be available from NPCs at the entrance of a dungeon. This means no more running around Zul Farrak because the quests were all over eight different zones!

Another change with the new expansion is the location of graveyards for players who are unlucky enough to perish within the dungeon. According to the game’s developers, no graveyard will be more than a half minute jog from a dungeon entrance, if not right outside. This is perhaps one of the best changes coming to the lineup.

Do you think these changes are going to help, or hinder what is already there?
