What Is Catherine Exactly? (The Story)

Murders, nightmares that could kill you, and a marriage proposal which ends up in a one-night-stand. This is all we know of Atlus’s new game, Catherine. What exactly is going on with this game? Atlus’ official website gives us the breakdown of the game’s storyline.

The Japanese website for Atlus’ Persona side-story, Catherine, has updated its story section, and the Japanese gaming website Andriasang has been nice enough to translate the details so we non-Japanese reading folk can get the skinny.

The game is pretty much what we thought – naked women and nightmares. Sweet.

The back story for the game centers around urban legends and murder, just like with other Persona titles. Young men have been found dead in their beds, their faces frozen in some sort of terrified expression. Rumors have begun to surface that if one has a nightmare, they must immediately wake up or suffer death.

The game starts up with Vincent, who is our string bean hero, hanging out in a bar with a girl named Katherine. The two have dated for five years, so Katherine suggests that the pair get married. Vincent, of course, freezes like all men do.

All of a sudden a mysterious girl named Catherine walks into the bar and sits right next to Vincent. Eventually, through conversation and insatiable urge, Vincent ends up taking Catherine home and sleeping with her. This is what we see in the game’s trailer.

That’s when the nightmares begin.

This is what we have been able to gather at this point. From here on players will embark on a journey to solve not only what is happening to Vincent, but also to the world around him. Sound intriguing?

You can see the story here from Andriasang.
