Yes, kids. It’s a very sad announcement, but Batman: Arkham City will not feature multiplayer. The game won’t offer any online multiplayer or offline co-op modes. When speaking about the multiplayer aspect of the game, Rocksteady Studios stated, “If we use all of the energy that is required to create multiplayer and instead focus this on the single player, would that deliver a better overall game?”
In all honesty, I understand this statement very clearly. A lot of people seems to think now that adding multiplayer to new games is “jumping on the bandwagon” and makes the production company seem mainstream. With Arkham City in its final stages of development, the team wants to focus more on delivering a spectacular single-player experience in attempts to offer a chart-topping title.
I understand that fans were hoping for multiplayer, but Rocksteady sees it as something that isn’t necessarily needed right now. Will it be available in a future DLC pack/update? We don’t really know. Sefton Hill, Rocksteady Studios Game Director, hopes that players will see that the right decision was made upon completion of the game.
