The First Detail Set For The Demon’s Souls Sequel

At the recently past Tokyo Game Show, From Software announced a hazy sequel to the critically acclaimed Demon’s Souls, and then it was titled “Project Dark.” Details weren’t released on the game then, but From has finally broken the silence with some new information about the sequel.

The new title will be called Dark Souls, and it will be released in Japan exclusively for the PS3. Here in the states the game will debut on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Namco Bandai will be publishing the game, and it’s release is slated for sometime this year.

Dark Souls is listed as a “spiritual” sequel, rather than a literal sequel. The game has a completely different storyline, set in a different time and place, yet it retains many themes from its predecessor.

You can expect the same RPG elements with the game such as creating and leveling your own specific character, and obtaining gear and weapons to remain, but in Dark Souls you will find yourself able to traverse a world with no boundaries. You can travel to places in the far off distance whenever you like, versus having a shrine to travel back to every time you exit a level.

Along with the free roaming travel, a great number of item, weapon, and magic types have been created for the sequel. This improves character personalization which is great considering that From has stated that they’ve raised the difficulty with Dark Souls!

Online play will return with Dark Souls, in the form of cooperative and competitive modes. Indirect online play will return, like with Demon’s Souls. Players can leave messages for and see each other in the world. Some aspects of the online play won’t carry over, though, due to the fact that Dark Souls will not have its own dedicated servers.

We look forward to hearing more on this sequel, as we are huge fans of the first. What do you think about Dark Souls so far?
