Minecraft 1.5 Update Is Live

Notch has been very hard at work on the latest update for Minecraft, even stating on his Twitter account that he wouldn’t go home until the update was completed. That’s dedication. Update 1.5 adds statistics, achievements, and weather to the game, and it’s now live. Notch, you can go home now.

The achievements are added to the game in a tree system, where you must complete one achievement in order to unlock others. When you log in to the game after updating you will immediately notice a popup on the screen that will tell you to “Press E to open your inventory.” (Yes, the inventory key has been changed to ‘E’ so there will be no more reaching across the keyboard.) Once this is done, you will receive an achievement for accessing your inventory. From there, you can unlock more achievements for such tasks as catching and cooking a fish, smelting iron, finding and defeating a monster, and more.

Minecraft has become quite the sensation, and it continues to get better and better. What’s your favorite addition in the new update?
