Update On PlayStation Network Outage, Hackers Deny Involvement

The most recent update from Sony regarding the five-day network outage, which you can read here, states that the company’s efforts to resolve the issue involve a complete overhaul of the system to “further strengthen our network infrastructure.” In the statement Sony asks players to deal with the outage for just a bit longer in order to allow the company to fix problems regarding the intrusion to their system. There is still no word on when the network will be back up and running, and if Sony plans to do anything to compensate for the loss.

In other news, however, the hacker collective Anonymous has issued their own statement regarding the system issue, denying having any involvement in the intrusion. The group released a message through their website that reads:

“While it could be the case that other Anons have acted by themselves, AnonOps was not related to this incident and takes no responsibility for it. A more likely explanation is that Sony is taking advantage of Anonymous’ previous ill-will towards the company to distract users from the fact the outage is actually an internal problem with the company’s servers.”

Sony appears to still be investigating the issue, and it will take some time for the system to complete being restructured. With Anonymous removing themselves from the equation, we’re left to wonder exactly what the issue is with the PlayStation Network system that could cause such a situation as this.
