Activision Announces Call of Duty Updates

During the Activision earnings call, the company had a couple of announcements regarding the popular FPS franchise, Call of Duty. The first announcement about the game series is that the newest title (they didn’t confirm Modern Warfare 3) will have an “online universe” that will be accompanying it. No real details were given as to what this universe will be, but we assume it is connected to the announcement from Beachhead to provide digital content for the series.

The second announcement is that the company does not plan to monetize the features that all players are receiving for free currently. This basically means that Activision has no intentions of charging players for online multiplayer.

I have to say that I am a bit confused as to what sort of “online universe” the Call of Duty franchise would have. Could it mean a changing online world in which players can exist? Could there be an online hub where players meet? What do you think?
