According to Sony, the PlayStation Network is in the final stages, having been completely rebuilt. The company has announced that they are certain the network will go live during the first week of May.
Patrick Seybold, Corporate Communications Director for Sony, stated via the PlayStation Blog that, “Today our global network and security teams at Sony Network Entertainment and Sony Computer Entertainment began the final stages of internal testing of the new system, an important step towards restoring PlayStation Network and Qriocity services.”
He goes on to state that the team has been working around the clock to rebuild the entire network and enhance the protection of personal user information. he mentions that the company’s top priority is to ensure the safety of all users when the network starts up again. It seems that Sony is promising almost near-immaculate security when the network goes live again later this week.
Sony is also going to be offering a free enrollment in an identity theft protection program for all U.S. users. The program is called AllClear ID Plus, and it will bind to account holders for a full 12 months once the network is restored and users sign up. Official word from Sony reads:
Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Network Entertainment International have made arrangements with Debix, Inc., one of the industry’s most reputable identity protection firms, to offer AllClear ID Plus at no cost to PlayStation Network and Qriocity account holders for 12 months from the time an account holder registers for the program.
Please note that we will start sending out activation emails for this program over the next few days, and you will have until June 18th to sign-up and redeem your code. You will need to sign up directly through AllClearID, not on Sony’s websites, and details, including step-by-step instructions for the program, will be emailed to United States PSN and Qriocity Account holders soon.
We will stay on top of Sony’s announcements and keep you up to date with anything that changes. For more information, head over to the PlayStation Blog.
