Sony’s Xperia Play – Some Details

Gaming on phones has always been limited by a lack of well-placed controls, and good selection of complex games.

Now, there is the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play. The first Playstation certified phone to ever hit the market. It offers actual hand held game controls, Android Gingerbread, up to seven preloaded games, and the full functionality of an android smartphone.

Xerpia Play will have seven preloaded titles, and a large library available for download including actual Playstation titles. What has me the most excited for the phone are the controls. The play has L and R bumpers, a slide-out full D-pad, and X, Square, Triangle and Circle buttons. It’s basically a phone with a slide out controller.

The Xperia Play is available on Verizon for $199 with a two year contract, about the standard price for a smart phone these days. The Play looks to be a good combination of games and smartphones and with one of the leaders in handheld gaming and the best open source OS, I think Sony Ericsson just might have a winner with this one.
