Gears of War 3 Code Hits The Net, Microsoft Is Investigating

There have been many, many occasions where games have leaked onto the internet before their initial release date. Early builds hit the new about two to three weeks before we actually see the game at retail. Games leaking months before their street date, though? This is much more rare.

That being said, it came as a bit of a shock when news surfaced of a playable, early build of Epic Games’ Gears of War 3 hitting torrent sites late last week. This build offered a look at the game’s single-player campaign that’s not even finished. Someone’s going to be in big trouble.

Microsoft is looking into the matter, and conducting a full investigation. the company told IGN that they “have seen the reports of Gears of War 3 content being propped on the Web and working closely with our security teams and law enforcement to address the situation. this content is not from a final build and is not representative of what fans will enjoy when the game launches.” This is serious business, and Microsoft isn’t looking at the situation lightly. As more information arises, we will be here to update.
