Demon’s Souls Servers Will Receive Continued Support Into 2012

In an original announcement some time ago, Atlus stated that its most unforgiving RPG, Demon’s Souls, would only be receiving online server support into October of this year. With the upcoming release of Dark Souls, the game’s sequel, this was to be understood. Still, however, some players were a bit upset by this news, though it didn’t seem to change. That was, until now.

According to a press release from the company, Atlus will be continuing server support “into 2012.” This means that players will still see messages from other players, show up as ghosts in players’ worlds, and be able to troll them for a bit longer. “While it comes at significant cost to us and although it has been over two years since the game revolutionized the notion of multiplayer and online functionality in an RPG,” commented Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales at ATLUS, “Our commitment to the game and the fans that turned it into an incredible success remains as strong as ever. While the reality is that one day the servers will ultimately close due to operation and maintenance costs, that day is not today, nor will it be this year. We’re excited to continue to support one of the most significant, influential games in recent memory into its third year, and we’re planning to hold more tendency events for our loyal, beloved fans. If you’ve been waiting to try Demon’s Souls or held off with concern that it was too late to join in, the truth is that there’s never been a better time to see what all the talk and awards are all about.”

On top of the continued server support, Atlus plans to reveal Pure White and Pure Black World Tendancy events which will come this holiday season. More details about these events will be released at a later date. Even with that, this is some great news. So get back out there and explore the vast world of Demon’s Souls while you can still enjoy the online server support. Cheers, Atlus.
