However, Activision has teamed up with Pepsi in a way that is going to leave a lot of people upset. Specifically people who don’t drink lots of Mountain Dew.
So what exactly is this promotion that will have gamers up in arms? During the promotional period, every Mountain Dew product you purchase will give you a code, which is redeemable for “Double XP time.” That’s right, you’ll be able to earn double the XP every time you toss back a Dew. How is this a big deal? Call of Duty players are some of the most fiercely competitive gamers I’ve come across. Before, it was people with time and natural skill that rose to the top of the charts. However, now those with the money to invest in Mountain Dew will be able to level up faster, and thus gain an edge on the competition. What’s more, the promotion begins on October 10, almost a full month before the game is launched. If you drink enough Dew, you’ll be able to save up hours and hours of Double XP time. But if you’re a Coke drinker (or stay away from soft drinks in general), you’ll be stuck leveling up the old-fashioned way.
The big winner here is going to be Pepsi, as they are going to sell a ton of Mountain Dew. How confident are they that the promotion is going to be a success? Well, they did specify that you can redeem no more than 750 codes. Yes, you read that right. They believe that some people may actually accumulate that many codes. Were you to only redeem 20oz drinks, that would net you over 180 hours of Double XP time. The sad part is there will actually be people out there who rack up that many points. Suddenly prestiging a few times doesn’t sound quite so hard.
