Almost a year in testing, Riot Games has decided to shut down Mac OS support for their hugely popular DotA-like title, League of Legends. This support will be terminated as of midnight on Tuesday, September 6th.
Riot issued a statement to the public saying that the decision was ultimately made because “our current approach regarding the Mac platform won’t guarantee the quality and frequent updates we deliver today on the PC.” The developer takes their care of the title very seriously, and they feel that it won’t be able to get the right treatment on Mac. Keep in mind, however, that this did not rule out the possibility of the game appearing on the Mac at any time in the future. Riot also addressed this, saying, “We are committed to building a solution that will work on the Mac in the long run, but it will take some time.”
Those who have taken part in the beta testing of the game on the Mac can choose to get a refund, or keep their accounts and play on the PC. This is some upsetting news, as League of Legends is a widely popular game. There’s no mention of how long this could take, and it could be quite a while before players will be able to grab this game on the Mac. As soon as more information arises, we will update accordingly.
