Minecraft Is Going To Court Over “Scrolls”

When it comes to naming your game, you want to capture the essence of the experience in one or two words. It’s a pretty big deal, especially when you have to make sure that no one else has the title you want for it. People get all kinds of huffy if you name your game in a very similar fashion, and have similar game content, so in those sort of cases, it’s usually taken to court.

All powerful creator of Minecraft, Notch, has had some conflict between his company, Mojang, and Bethesda. His next game to come out of the company was to be called “Scrolls”, but Bethesda was not too keen on the idea, as they feared gamers may confuse Scrolls and The Elder Scrolls series.

Obviously this means that we all call Skyrim “Scrolls” right? What with all the scrolls that Oblivion and Morrowind have strewn throughout them, we may become terribly confused. This situation seems similar to when I was in grade school, and adults thought a cool made-up word that everyone said was a bad word. While they were completely off target, it was still funny to watch them freak out. Why you so silly Bethesda?
