Every once in a while, I get the desire to go back and play some really classic games from my youth. A lot of times the easiest way to do this is by downloading ROMs and playing on an emulator. Of course, the legality of this is somewhat questionable, even if you actually own the original cartridges. That’s why I’m always happy to see older games get released for free, like Ultima IV.
That’s right, if you head over to GoG, you can download all 25 glorious megabytes of this RPG classic. While a game from 1985 might not quite live up to today’s standards, it’s a great look at how far RPGs have come in the last three decades.
Ultima IV is arguably one of the great milestones in RPG history. It was sixteen times larger than the previous title, and brought more complexity to the genre than simple “kill the bad guy and save the world” storylines. With compatibility for modern Windows systems, there’s no reason not to grab this classic.
