Bastion Sales Break Past 500K – The Kid Takes The Indie Scene By Storm

Games start in development, make it to finalized versions, hit the market, and sell. This is how the gaming industry works. However as time goes on, especially lately, new gaming studios are making things their way. Indie studios are rising up from the depths and are creating games that the community has received with extreme love and affection. Every once and a while an indie game hits the scene that really exceeds expectations, and this time, Bastion is that game.

Bastion is a colorful, emotional, and hard-hitting RPG from indie developer Supergiant Games. It released back in July of 2011, and gamers took to it by storm. It has players taking the role of The Kid, a young survivor of a catastrophic event known as the Calamity. Players must lead The Kid through the now-shattered world of Caelondia and recover fragments to help restore the Bastion – a special place that can bring the world back to its once-loved state.

News is in from the developer, and Bastion has had some extreme commercial success. The game has sold over 500,000 copies across the PC and Xbox Live Arcade. After finally picking up Bastion and playing through it myself, I feel that this is a game deserving of recognition. Coming from Supergiant’s creative director and writer on Bastion, “When we set out to make Bastion, a sales number like that seemed astronomical to us, so it feels great to have hit that mark. It goes to show that a lot of folks out there like what we’re doing and want us to keep going, which is great, because we intend to stick together as a team and do just that.”

It’s great to hear the developer excited to push onward, and they’ve gotten great response from the community. If you haven’t picked up Bastion for yourself, I definitely think you should. You can grab it on the Xbox Live Marketplace and Steam for the PC, and either platform is great. Congratulations to Supergiant on this triumph, and we look forward to seeing more from them in the future!
