On the rare occasion that I really want to watch a movie that isn’t available on Netflix, I usually turn to one of two methods. I’ll either hit up the RedBox that sits by my local grocery store, or rent it from Amazon Instant Video. Of course, if I go with the latter, and want to watch it on my TV, I need to use my PS3. Or at least I used to.
Amazon and Microsoft have announced the availability of an Amazon Instant Video App for Xbox Live. Unfortunately, like other streaming services such as Netflix, you will need a Gold subscription in order to take advantage of it.
The app does have full Kinect integration, so if you prefer to talk to and wave at your TV, you’ll be able to control your rentals that way. Also announced was Whispersync, which will allow you to start watching a video on a device like the Kindle Fire, pause it, and then pick up where you left off on your 360.
