Call Of Duty: Black Ops 2 Officially Revealed

After months of rumors and even pictures showing the pre-order cards at Target, Activision officially announced that the next Call of Duty title is… Black Ops 2. So yea, that’s not that surprising. What is a little surprising is probably the fact that it’s not set in the 60’s, but rather it’s set in the near-future of 2025.

The trailer shows a main character from the first Black Ops Sgt. Frank Woods alive and kicking. However, looking at how old and frail he looks, I’m willing to bet that he isn’t the main focus of this game, and he looks to only be providing exposition in this game. He talks of the future, how man “got weaker” while technology grew stronger. How we built robots and relied on technology to keep us safe, but never asked the question about what would happen if somebody else “got the keys”.

Some people have been lamenting about how this game might just start blending into the Modern Warfare Call of Duty’s, but I think they might be overreacting. For one, this game looks to be quite a bit more into the future than even the Modern Warfares, where people are even more dependent on technology than today. It’s envisioning a scenario about how the next big war will be fought, and it’s saying that the next big war isn’t going to be fought by two armies on a field of battle, but rather it’s going to be about if the USA would be able to defend from an attack on the internet. Judging by the trailer, I have a feeling that it’s not going to be so easy. Black Ops 2 will launch on the PC, Xbox 360, and PS3 on November 13th, 2012.
