Diablo III Now Has A Starter Edition

So Diablo III releases tomorrow, and tons of gamers are spending their hard-earned cash to pick up their copies at midnight. But what if you haven’t seen what the game has to offer yet? What if you didn’t get a chance to play in the beta? I’ve got some good news for you, upcoming heroes, your time has finally come.

Blizzard has announced that, much like with Starcraft II, Diablo III will offer a Starter Edition. This edition of the game will essentially play out as a free demo, offering players the same content that was available in the beta. Players will have the chance to play each class, level them to 13, and take on the Skeleton King for glory. There are, however, some restrictions:

  • Matchmaking can only be done with other Starter Edition players
  • No access to the in-game auction house
  • Level cap is 13

The way you can pick up one of these Starter Editions is through your Battle.net account. You can download the Starter Edition game client there, and get to playing immediately. This little demo will be available to everyone without a Guest Pass for 30 days after the game launches. After this point you’ll need a friend to offer you a Guest Pass to play. If you download and play the Starter Edition and decide you want more, you can upgrade to the full game from within your Battle.net account. For more information, head to the FAQ posted here.
